Hooded Towels

The hooded towel
So it has been 2 months since my last post but as promised here is the tutorial on hooded towels.

I love! these towels.  A friend made the first ones that we had.  I use them from the time my kids were born.  They are great gifts for babies, kids, and swimmers of all ages.

you will need...
a sewing machine
scissors
1 hand towel
1 large bath towel
a few pins and a ruler

Fold large bath towel in half 

Put a pin to mark 4inches over

And a pin to mark 3inches down

                                 

                                         Start a the top where you marked 4inches and sew down to the 3inch pin.

                                         

                                               Open

Flatten centers together making sure they are as even as possible (you can baste or pin this down if you need).  Set large towel aside for later.

Fold the hand towel up 10inches and cut on the fold.  You will use the 10inch length to make the hood part.   The rest you can save for another project.

I like to surge the edge because terri cloth (towel fabric) tends to fray.  It is fine if you don't.  You can also try zig zagging the edge to give it a finish.

Fold towel in half and sew.  Make sure if there is a pattern or design that you fold the towel so that it is in the inside when you sew.

Now pin the hood to the towel as shown making sure centers match.

Sew the towels together with the hood on top.  Be sure to open and flatten the seam  when you sew them together.  *make sure you go over the edges a few times to make sure the hood is secure.
Trim threads and put it to use.

Finished project!!

 So there it is a custom hooded towel.
